About the woodworking studio
Welcome to the shop. All of the items you see are hand crafted. I don’t use any paint or stain in my work. All of the color and detail you see is aquired by puzzling together different species of wood.
Wood comes in lots of colors- red (blood wood), yellow (yellow heart), black (bog oak), deep brown (wenge, katalox, walnut),purple (purple heart), grey (blue Mahoe) and a million shades of brown. Some wood has figuring that resembles a sunset, some has a flame or lace pattern. I pay close attention to the colors and figure of the wood so I can make things look as close as I can to whatever I’m working on, and I usually work directly from photos of wildlife. Pieces are cut with a scroll saw and at times a jeweler’s coping saw and then fit together like a puzzle. Once that’s done I glue the pieces together and then shape and carve the piece using carving tools or a rotary tool.
I never know what I’m going to make next and just let it flow. I am drawn to wildlife and especially birds and feathers.
Check in often, as I am always adding to the shop.
